Changes in After School Club

The After School Club will complete the fairy tales program over the next two weeks with stories about Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White. We will read several updated versions of the stories, complete a craft and watch two short Scholastic movies.

The After School Club will then try meeting the FIRST TWO WEEKS of March, April and May. I am hoping that an abbreviated schedule will coordinate better with other activities.

The first Monday in March (the 7th) we will read about Dr. Seuss, sample a number of his stories for older students, complete a craft and watch a movie. The second Monday (the 14th) we will read  stories about St. Patrick and leprechauns and complete a craft.

Please be sure to register for this program in advance as materials need to be prepared.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR. SEUSS

04_seuss37_dDon’t forget to sign up for the Dr. Seuss birthday party! We will celebrate on March 2nd from 7-8p.m. Children and adults are invited to wear their pajamas and bring pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals.

The evening will begin with Dr. Seuss stories. We will follow that with a small birthday treat, a short Dr. Seuss movie, and the raffle of a Dr. Seuss hat! Children will take home birthday treat bags and stickers.

Please register so that enough treats will be available.

Love was in the Air!

After being home sick for several days, sleeping and drinking tea and basically being pampered by my very patient husband, I returned to work. The LOVE YOUR LIBRARY event was a great way to ease back into story times. It was wonderful seeing both familiar faces and new families. The children enjoyed the silly stories, the yummy snacks, the crafts, and the chance to visit with Peter Catalanotto.

valentineValentine’s Day came complete with full story times, cute stories, goofy songs…and a surprise party! We all enjoyed cookies and juice and the opportunity to visit with each other. One of the little boys looked longingly at the leftover treats and then whispered to me, “Don’t put that away.”  A little girl kept repeating, very sweetly and quietly while her dad was helping her put her coat on, “I need my cookie…I need my cookie.”

I guess I may have to plan another small party soon.

Below are the stories, songs, and fingerplays from the first two story times in February:

Time to Say Good Night by Sally Lloyd-Jones

Close Your Eyes by Kate Banks

Don’t Wake Up the Bear! By Margery Murray

Will You Be My Valenswine? By Teresa Bateman

The Best Thing About Valentines by Eleanor Hudson

Valentine Cats by Jean Marzollo

Mail Myself To You

I'm gonna wrap myself in paper.
I'm gonna dab myself with glue.
Stick some stamps on top of my head.
I'm gonna mail myself to you.

I'm gonna tie me up in red string,
I'm gonna use blue ribbon too.
I'm gonna climb up into your mailbox.
I'm gonna mail myself to you.

When you see me in your mailbox
Cut the string and let me out
Wipe the glue off my fingers
And stick some bubblegum in my mouth!

Skinna-marinky dinky dink, skinnamarinky doo I love you (repeat three lines)
I love you in the morning and in the afternoon,
I love you in the evening, and underneath the moon
Skinnamarinky, dinky dink skinnamarinky doo
I love you!
